1. Rental Agreement

By booking a vehicle with Savvy Car Hire Pty Ltd (ABN 87 694 482 034), you agree to these terms and conditions and the rental agreement provided at the time of booking. The rental agreement forms a binding contract between you (the renter) and Savvy Car Hire.

2. Eligibility

To rent a vehicle you must:

Be aged between 21 and 75
Hold a full Australian or international driver's licence (no learner or provisional licences)
If your licence is not in English, carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) or certified English translation
Provide a valid credit or debit card for payment
Provide valid identification (passport or government issued photo ID)

3. Security Bond

A refundable security bond of $400 is charged at the time of booking. The bond is held for approximately two weeks after the vehicle is returned to allow for processing of any outstanding tolls, fines, or charges. Any remainder is refunded to your original payment method. Deductions may be made for:

Damage to the vehicle not covered by Standard Protection
Unpaid toll charges
Traffic or parking infringements
Fuel top-up charges
Excessive cleaning required
Late return fees

4. Standard Protection

All rentals include Standard Protection at no additional cost. It is damage cover with an excess, included in every rental. Your liability (excess) under Standard Protection is:

$2,000 for drivers aged 25 and over
$3,000 for drivers aged 21 to 24

You may reduce your excess by purchasing Excess Reduction for $30 per week ($10 per day on daily hires), which lowers your liability to $800 (25+) or $1,500 (21 to 24).

Standard Protection does not cover: damage to tyres, windscreen, or undercarriage; interior damage; loss of keys; infringements and tolls; damage caused by driving on unsealed roads, while impaired, or outside Victoria without our written consent; or damage caused by unauthorised drivers.

5. Payments

Payment is accepted by credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) processed securely via Stripe. Cash and bank transfers are not accepted.

For weekly rentals, the first payment includes the security bond plus the first week's rental. Subsequent weekly payments are charged automatically to the card on file every 7 days.

6. Included Kilometres

Each weekly rental includes 500 kilometres, counted from the vehicle's GPS and shown on your booking page. Any excess kilometre charge is at the per-kilometre rate published on this site at the time of booking, and the reading is shown to you before it is charged.

7. Fuel Policy

Vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, the missing fuel is charged at $2.20 per litre. There is no refuelling admin fee.

8. Additional Drivers

Up to 4 additional drivers may be added free of charge. All additional drivers must hold a valid full driver's licence and be registered on the rental agreement. Unauthorised drivers are not covered by Standard Protection.

9. Return Policy

Return the vehicle by 5pm on your return date, to the same location you picked it up from. Returns to a different location are not available. Please give us at least 48 hours notice before returning. If you want to extend, request the extension at least 48 hours before your return date.

Your $400 bond is charged at booking and held for approximately two weeks after the vehicle is returned. Any amounts owed (tolls, fines, fuel, cleaning, damage, late fees) are deducted, and the remainder is refunded to your original payment method.

Weekly rentals are billed in full weeks. Early return mid-week does not entitle you to a partial refund for the remaining days of that week.

10. Vehicle Condition

You agree to return the vehicle in the same condition as received, subject to normal wear and tear. An inspection will be conducted at pickup and return. You must report any accidents, damage, or mechanical issues immediately.

11. Prohibited Use

Vehicles must not be used for:

Any illegal purpose
Racing, speed testing, or driver training
Towing or pushing another vehicle
Off-road driving or on unsealed roads
Transporting more passengers than the vehicle is designed for
Sub-letting or hiring to a third party
Rideshare, food delivery, or any other commercial use without our written consent
Smoking or vaping in the vehicle
Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs
Driving outside Victoria without our written consent

12. Tolls & Infringements

The renter is responsible for all toll charges, traffic infringements, and parking fines incurred during the rental period. Tolls are on-charged at cost plus a $3 admin fee. Fines and infringements are on-charged at cost plus a $5 admin fee.

13. Cancellation

Cancel 7 or more days before pickup for a full refund. Cancel between 7 days and 36 hours before pickup and a 50% cancellation fee applies. Cancel less than 36 hours before pickup and no refund applies. Card processing surcharges are not refundable.

14. Privacy

Your personal information is collected, used, and stored in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Australian privacy legislation.

15. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
